The wonders of the plant world

The world of plants has always intrigued me, partly because of my interest in plants as a child and partly because of the fact that my degree makes me study about plants at times. Either way, I cannot help but be amazed at the amazing facts and qualities of plants. Despite the fact that plants remain in the same place all their lives and are, at times, considered a boring area of study, they hold some truly magnificent secrets within themselves. This one is for all the plant lovers out there; a few interesting facts about plants that you probably didn’t know!

Plant fact #1: Bamboo has immense growing capabilities. It is the fastest growing plant in the entire world and can grow up to 35 inches in a single day! Strange as it may seem, this is an authentic, real life fact.

Plant fact #2: Tulips can also grow upto an inch after they are cut every day. However, that is not the awesome fact about tulips that we have in store. There was a time when tulips became so valuable in Holland that a single bud was more expensive than gold! This actually led to the collapse of the whole economy!

Plant fact #3: Cranberries are cute to look at and very yummy to eat. They also tend to bounce and float in water. This is because they have small air bubble like pockets inside them thus giving them the ability to float!

Plant fact #4: Strawberry is the only fruit that has its seeds on the outside. An average strawberry has up to 200 seeds!

Plant fact #5: Onions actually contain small amounts of a mild antibiotic which helps prevent various infections and also helps in treating bee stings!
